Animal Justice Files Complaint Against Meadow Valley Meats

BC SPCA Investigating Animal Cruelty Allegations

Legal Action Against Meatpacking Plant Over Alleged Abuse

Animal Justice, a Canadian animal law organization, has filed a legal complaint against Meadow Valley Meats, a meatpacking plant in Abbotsford, British Columbia. The complaint alleges that staff at the plant engaged in "egregious acts of animal cruelty" against cows and calves. The complaint includes graphic video footage that appears to show workers kicking, punching, and dragging animals.

The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) is also investigating the allegations. The BC SPCA seized several animals from the plant on Wednesday, and has launched a criminal investigation.

Meadow Valley Meats has denied the allegations, but Animal Justice and the BC SPCA say the evidence is clear. The organizations are calling for criminal charges to be laid against the workers responsible, and for the plant to be shut down.
