Neil Mitchell steps down from 3AW

After 34 years on air

Mitchell will retire from his top-rated Melbourne morning radio show at the end of 2023

Neil Mitchell has announced that he will step down from his top-rated Melbourne morning radio show at the end of 2023.

Mitchell has been a constant in the life of many Melburnians for 33 years, hosting Mornings on 3AW since 1990.

In a statement released on Thursday, Mitchell said that he had made the decision to retire after much thought and consideration.

"It's been an incredible journey, and I've loved every minute of it," Mitchell said.

"But after 34 years, it's time for a change. I'm looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends, and to pursuing some of my other interests.

"I want to thank all of my listeners for their support over the years. It's been an honor and a privilege to be a part of your lives.

Mitchell's retirement will mark the end of an era for 3AW and for Melbourne radio.

He is one of the most respected and influential radio broadcasters in Australia, and his departure will leave a big void in the Melbourne media landscape.

However, Mitchell is confident that 3AW will continue to thrive in his absence.

"I have every confidence that 3AW will continue to be the number one radio station in Melbourne," Mitchell said.

"I wish the station all the best for the future."
